Welcome toMendip Green Primary School
At the heart of everything we do is a deep commitment to ensuring every child feels happy, loved, and truly seen. We believe everyone deserves an extraordinary childhood, and school plays a vital role in shaping those precious years. Our curriculum is designed not only to prepare children for the next stage in their learning journey, but also to nurture their curiosity, creativity, and personal growth through rich and varied experiences.

See our FacebookHere are a few things we have been up to at Mendip Green this week…
This week has been the RSPB's garden watch and EYFS have had the best time learning about our feathered friends! We have completed surveys, made bird nests, carried out many craft activities as well as learning about what we can do to help protect birds in our environment.
Our theme in Year 1 this week has been ducks. We’ve been writing about ducks, sculpting ducks and have made beautiful collages of ducks. We've even used loose parts to make duck pictures!
In science, Year 2 have been learning about habitats and learning about what animals need to survive.
Year 3 had a yoga session in the classroom due to the heavy rain. The children showed off their flexibility - minion style!
Year 4 have enjoyed learning about the Jurassic Coast in geography. They can confidently talk about how erosion can cause rocks to form caves, arches and stacks.
Year 5 listened to the story Beowulf in English this week which links to their learning in history. They loved that the hero defeated the monster Grendel and are looking forward to writing their own defeating the monster stories at the end of the unit.
Year 6 have drawn self-portraits this week. They are working towards their final piece which will be a layered portrait.

Not much?
Well, a short amount of time with this superstar is all you’ll need. He’s been reading about invasive animals and pests from around the world. He’s 5, by the way, but reading fluently and able to share his new knowledge.
So, so proud 📖 🫶 🌳

Here are a few things we have been up to at Mendip Green this week…
EYFS have been experimenting with ice this week as part of our winter season exploration. We have also shown a flying start with our new phonics learning, using all our skills to write words and captions with increasing independence.
Year 1 have continued their learning about birds this week. They have learnt about curlews and have done some observational drawings of feathers.
Year 2 have been exploring the primary and secondary colours using the colour wheel this week as part out our Expressive Art lessons.
Year 3 have been developing their hand-eye coordination by practising underarm throwing and catching.
Year 4 have done their first piece of writing on their book Mark of the Cyclops. They have worked hard on a letter from the character Nico, who is a scribe for a musician, to his parents.
As part of their DT learning, Year 5 have explored the differences between recipes. They taste tested, identified preferences, and suggested alterations to recipes.
This week in PE, Year 6 have been focusing on different balances during gymnastics. They were also practising being a base and a flyer!
A BIG SHOUT OUT: A huge well done to our very own Mr O on his new post as CEO of our trust. We know he will be an amazing trust leader and ELAN’s 9 schools will be very lucky to have him at the helm. We might miss him a teeny bit though.
PUPDATES: There have been some very frosty walks for the pups this week. One pup snuggled up in Class 20’s book corner for our staff meeting whilst the other had climbed inside Miss Reason’s bag and helped herself to her leftover lunch. We will let you decide which is which.
